Notes on Building a Website
At the beginning of the 2013-14 school year, I had a two-week substitute position at Lincoln High School, in the Engineering Department. I was given no curriculum because they were still looking to hire an Engineering teacher. While it may not have been the case, the students seem to have been doing nothing but playing video games, so I decided to teach them how to build a webpage using Weebly. The following links and notes are from different sites I built, as both examples to the Engineering students, as well as to potential clients who might need a simple site.
If you prefer watching and taking notes, instead of reading, this a the link a Bing search for a bunch of videos on YouTube that you can watch, that will walk you through the process of how to build your own page in Weebly.
Towards the middle of the 2013-14 school year, I was hired to do a 5-month substitute assignment at SCPA (The School of Creative & Performing Arts), teaching junior high school & used weebly to create this website http://scpajr.weebly.com
- http://captivarting.weebly.com/lincoln.html is the lecture site with all the notes, downloadable samples and screen captures of how to get started building a webpage with Weebly, specifically with student portfolios in mind.
- http://lincengine.weebly.com/ is an example site, built for the students I taught in the Engineering department at Lincoln High School in 2013 (hence the url "lincEngine). While incomplete in content, it is as far as I got with them during the two weeks I substituted there.
- http://www.kelseycollister.com/blog/six-steps-to-launching-an-advertising-portfolio-website/ is a good article on why to build a portfolio
- http://captivarting.weebly.com/uploads/5/1/6/4/5164487/flow-chart_website.pdf is a downloadable PDF worksheet for students/clients
