Avatar
This is a screen capture of the introductory project (Avatar_jwing.png) showcasing some of the tools used in Adobe Illustrator; though it may be more complex than I expect our students to produce, models the construction process, using simple shapes (the ellipse tool, rectangle tool, rounded rectangle tool), as well as the pen tool, to create the hair, eyebrows and transparent shadows in the ears, under the nose, mouth and chin, and the "window" behind the character.
One of the objectives is to model for students how to label layers in Illustrator, so that, (if time allows in the class), we can export the layers out of Illustrator and into Adobe Flash, to animate the Avatar (adding movement such as blinking, eyebrows, and mouth positions, synchronized to a vocalized sentence the student records and adds).
